I think your question was "do I need a visa if I'm going to japan?" If that's the question, then no. You are considered a tourist if there for under a certain period of time. I think it's either 30 or 90 days....can't remember. But in case I'm completely off here, just check this out....

This will tell you what you need when travelling TO a country. If you are travelling THROUGH a country (via airport) you don't need a visa or anything other than your passport. Hope this helps.

You could always say that you plan to travel via ferry to Japan if anyone ask.

Yeah I went ahead and got my visa already because one of the other girls on here didn't have hers and had to buy return tickets at the airport almost missing her flight before they would let her go on to Korea. I don't want to deal with that!! SO we are good and ready to hurry up and get there already!!
