I think your question was "do I need a visa if I'm going to japan?" If that's the question, then no. You are considered a tourist if there for under a certain period of time. I think it's either 30 or 90 days....can't remember. But in case I'm completely off here, just check this out....
http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html This will tell you what you need when travelling TO a country. If you are travelling THROUGH a country (via airport) you don't need a visa or anything other than your passport. Hope this helps. |

You don't need a VISA for the first 30 days.
You could always say that you plan to travel via ferry to Japan if anyone ask. If you could, for peace of mind, take care of it all before you come. |
